Committees

Committees offer GYC members the opportunity to give back to the Club, and earn work hours in the process. As a working Club, members are required to contribute a specified number of hours to maintenance of the Club and its facilities. The hours are determined by the Executive Board each year, and accumulate from 1st Sep to 31st Aug. Below are descriptions of just some of the committees that help keep the Club "ship shape".

Racing - polishing your skills on Tuesday evenings and at weekend events.

House - The House chairman has the daunting task of maintaining our clubhouse.  Volunteers are ALWAYS needed and you get an automatic 5 work hours when you complete any "tour of duty

Launch / Haul - the always important activities to start and finish each season. Crews are lined up to safely haul and launch our boats.

Junior Sailing - aimed at introducing our young members to the joys of sailing ... safely.

Yard - concerned with the upkeep and appearance of our grounds. "Mowers" and shakers are always welcome to sign up to help.

Equipment - insures everything is in working order when it's needed.

Social - doing a "fun"tastic job of putting together events that aim to please a broad audience. Event volunteers (and ideas) are always welcome. Check out the Events page to see what's up next.

Membership - insuring the vitality of the Club. Handles applications, and works with potential members to make sure their questions are answered and their experiences are happy ones.

Officer of the Day - making sure that visitors from reciprocal yacht clubs are warmly welcomed and introduced to the comforts that GYC offers.

Programs - offering opportunities for members to learn about sailing-related topics from guest speakers, videos, etc.

Docks - insuring that the GYC docks are maintained and improved.

Stores - maintaining the stocks of GYC burgees, Canadian flags, clothing, etc.

Library - maintaining a selection of books and videos for members to borrow.

Timekeeper - insures accurate records are kept of members' work hours and applicants' participation hours.

Robert Read - insures that the committee boat is kept in working order.

Newsletter  - insures members are informed of upcoming events and Club business.

House Reservations - Coordinating use of the clubhouse for club and private events. Club members can reserve the clubhouse from November through April.
